Luis Gordillo Untitled (provisional)
21.10.2010 - 29.01.2011
The Josep Suñol collection includes several pieces by Luis Gordillo, mostly from the 1970s and 1980s. Together with others kept by Fernando Vijande and additional earlier and later pieces provided by the artist himself, they make up an exhibition in an unusual format for the Fundació Suñol that looks at Gordillo’s creative process, from initial idea to final form.
The friendship between Luis Gordillo, Josep Suñol and Fernando Vijande helped shape the process of putting together a series of pieces by this innovative and intimately expressive artist. By bringing them together in the same space, we hope to illustrate the career of an artist whose work is difficult to classify or define and which leads us along cryptic paths.
The opportunity to witness an artist’s creative process tends to arouse great expectation, particularly as it means accessing the private realm that sparks an artist’s drive to make the imaginary real. And in the case of Luis Gordillo these procedural moments are especially transcendental, given the uncertain emotional path along which we are led.
This exhibition aims to show the public all this material alongside the finished work that served as a source of inspiration or was its consequence.
The idea essentially is to reveal the evolutionary process behind major pieces from Luis Gordillo’s artistic production, so his work can be read through a prism that brings us closer to one of the most influential 20th-century artists in our country.
