Act 16: Lupe Pérez García Cruel Tales. The Explorer’s Two Missions
02.07.2010 - 18.09.2010
Each of the pieces in the project Cruel Tales tackles a different story, but they are all fashioned in the form of fables featuring human beings and have an ambiguous morality and the same conceptual body: they talk of minimally sketched representations through a poetic, nostalgic document made up of small clips of individual and collective memories, with the ending to each story open to spectators’ expectations.
The Explorer’s Two Missions is one of the five audiovisual pieces that make up Cruel Tales and the winning work for the second edition of the grant awarded by the Fundació Suñol and the Can Xalant Creation Centre in Mataró for producing and exhibiting video projects.
The video was made with found materials and audiovisual pieces obtained mainly from the internet and free of copyright. While the artist was searching for images and videos to create each of the fables, she found the Web was full of filters and restrictions: what was viewable one day was gone the next.
