Miró: Poema
Fundación MAPFRE
June 3rd, 2021 – August 29th, 2021
Curator: Carlos Martín
The Fundación MAPFRE Recoletos of Madrid inaugurates the new exhibition Miró: Poem, an exhibition that traces the relationships between Miró’s pictorial work and poetry from various points of view, in a deep vision that transcends the concept of “illustration”, a notion that establishes a hierarchy between media that cannot be reconciled with the artist’s discourse.
Escaping academicism and searching for ways to transcend painting, Miró, a passionate reader and friend of poets, explores the paths of painting and poetry simultaneously in his work. This last discipline will serve to expand the limits of his work and try to translate the ways of making writers into the languages of painting from the conviction of the “extremely disturbing character of a written page.”
The exhibition tries to decipher the role of poetic painting in Miró’s career through a selection of paintings, drawings, illustrated books, and handwritten poems, as well as through the artist’s collaborations with various poets of the time.
The Fundació Suñol collaborates with the exhibition through the loan of the work Peinture (1926) by Joan Miró.
