Barcelona, 1942

A pioneer artist of Arte Povera in Catalonia in the mid-1970s. He began as a Capuchin friar until, in 1966, he was discovered by Alexandre Cirici i Pellicer, a Spanish art critic who initially supported his artistic work. He was associated with the group of painters made up of Jordi Galí, Sílvia Gubern, Àngel Jové and Alberto Porta (Zush/Evru). In 1969 he decided to give up artistic practice due to poetic radicalism. He would return to it in 1979, now uninterruptedly.

He began as a painter, but quickly evolved towards a more sculptural and conceptual art. In his works we see reflected the desire to create an ephemeral and fragile art that led him to rethink the constructive space and the idea of volume. The most famous material throughout his career has been the work done with cut paper, thus creating a play of shadows. He also used materials such as talcum powder, dried sculptures, wrapping paper that he crumpled and then glued together, and tracing paper accompanied by gold or red paint in his conceptual works. Apart from his artistic work, his literary work stands out, with important titles that have led him to teach artistic literature at the University of Gerona or give workshops at the School of Visual Arts in New York. His work can be found in important collections such as Artium in Vitoria, Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona, Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid and MACBA, among others.

The Fundació Suñol has two works by the artist in its collection. A graphic work entitled L’art es un fet … (2012) and an untitled collage from 1984.
