Joan Colom was a Catalan photographer known for his black and white photographs that document daily life in the humblest neighborhoods of Barcelona in the 1950s and 1960s. With a spontaneous and direct style, Colón especially delved into the Raval neighborhood, capturing scenes of urban life with a humanistic and empathetic view, often from hidden perspectives to capture the naturalness of his subjects. His images, often focused on marginal figures, children and workers, have been celebrated as visual witnesses of the social reality of the time and made him an emblematic figure of Spanish documentary photography of the 20th century.
