Born in 1952 in Barcelona, Federic Amat studied at the Escola Massana and the Escola de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi. His artistic career began in the late 1960s, when he started exploring the possibilities of pictorial language through various techniques, such as painting, drawing, and installation. Amat has developed a distinctive style that combines influences from pop art, surrealism, and expressionism, often addressing themes such as the human body, the dream world, and the symbolic universe.
During the 1980s, his work evolved into a new direction, where color and form became central elements. His paintings are characterized by the use of vivid colors and abstract shapes that convey emotions and concerns of contemporary society. Moreover, Amat has been a pioneer in using unconventional materials and innovative techniques, including three-dimensional objects and the incorporation of digital technology.
Amat has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in prestigious galleries, both nationally and internationally, including the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), the Fundació Joan Miró, and the Venice Biennale. His work is part of important collections, such as the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
In addition to his role as a painter, Federic Amat is also recognized for his activity as a multidisciplinary artist, working in areas such as theater, literature, and film. His contribution to contemporary art has been acknowledged with various awards and distinctions, establishing him as one of the most relevant artists in the Catalan and Spanish art scene.
