Born in 1950 in Barcelona, Albert Amargós studied at the Escola Massana and the Escola de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi. During his early years as an artist, he developed a style that fused the language of painting and drawing with influences from abstract expressionism and surrealism. In his work, Amargós has explored themes such as nature, landscape, and the human figure through intense strokes and suggestive forms, creating compositions with a strong poetic charge and symbolism.
In the 1980s and 1990s, his work consolidated with a rich color palette and an expressive brushstroke that captured vibrant emotions. Amargós experimented with various materials and techniques, such as ink, oil, and acrylic, developing a distinctive pictorial style where texture and color play an essential role. In his works, there is often a nearly mystical depth, with organic shapes that seem to emerge from the landscape or the artist’s personal imaginaries.
Amargós’s works have been exhibited in important galleries and museums across Europe, North America, and South America, including the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), the Museu d’Art Modern de São Paulo, and various galleries in New York and Paris. His career includes both solo and group exhibitions, where his work has stood out for its ability to convey an intense emotional universe.
Today, Albert Amargós is considered a reference in contemporary painting in Catalonia and Spain, with a body of work that continually seeks to transcend time and connect with the viewer through a deeply personal and evocative visual language.
