Round table with Glòria Picazo, Evru/Zush and Rosa Amorós A secret in Les Corts
11.03.2020, 18:30
The building in Les Corts is the current main space, although its history goes back a long way. The Galeria 2, the name given to the space we are now found, was set up in 1980 as a storeroom for the Josep Suñol Collection, responding to its rapid expansion, and was also a key site for those seeking to discover the city’s art scene. Throughout the years, Galeria 2 also served as a studio and place of residence for artists such as Zush, José Noguero, Pablo Maeso and Rosa Amorós. The 11th march 2020 we organized a round table moderated by Glòria Picazo with two of the resident artists, Evru/Zush and Rosa Amorós, to give a first-hand account of the history of this space and its context. You can watch the full video of the round table here:
Glòria Picazo (Barcelona, 1950) is an art critic and independent curator of contemporary art exhibitions. She was founder/director of the Centre d’Art la Panera de Lleida (2003-2015) and has collaborated with the CAPC Musée d’art contemporain in Bordeaux, the Centre d’Art Contemporani Metrónom in Barcelona and the MACBA Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, among other institutions. She has also published for newspapers and magazines such as El País and Exit Express and is on the editorial board of the magazines L’Avenç and Transversal.
Evru / Zush (Barcelona, 1946), previously known as Zush (1968-2001) and Albert Porta (Barcelona, 1946-1968), is an artist whose artistic career was mainly marked by his time at the Hospital Frenopàtic de Barcelona with the birth of Zush. In 2001, in his retrospective exhibition at the MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona, he abandoned this personality and became Evru. At the beginning of his career, from 1962 onwards, he had the support of the gallery owner René Metras and since then his work has been exposed in important museums around the world, as well as playing a major role in the Josep Suñol Collection. He was the first resident of Galeria 2 between 1984 and 1986.
Rosa Amorós (Barcelona, 1945) studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona and at the Massana School, where she also taught from 1971 to 2005. Her artistic activity began with her participation in the Joan Miró Prize in 1967 and 1968. From 1976, René Metras also became interested in her artistic work and so began a period of fifteen years of continuous exhibitions in her gallery in Barcelona, through which the close relationship between the artist and the foundation with Josep Suñol began, acquiring some of her works and incorporating them into the collection. He was a resident of Gallery 2 in 1993.
