Discovering the collections of the Botanical Institute. A dialogue between art and science
22.10.2022, 11:00
The artist of the exhibition Intersecting memories Pep Vidal leads us to the herbarium of the Institut Botànic where, guided by one of its curators, Neus Nualart, we will begin an unusual visit to this collection of plants. Art and science come together in an activity that seeks to connect two collections of a different nature guarded by the Fundació Suñol and the Institut Botànic respectively.
In this free visit we will have the opportunity to see the collections of living and pressed dead plants, establishing a dialogue between the world of art and botany thanks to the gaze of Pep Vidal. Throughout his career, the artist has been interested in the world of plants as an element of research, evaluating the surface, volume, color, humidity and light of more than 300 plants since his research began in September 2016, when he set the goal of creating more sustainable agricultural systems.
Pep Vidal (Barcelona, 1980) holds a degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Physics from the UAB. He has based his research on mathematical algorithms that improve the precision of the instruments used in particle accelerators. Vidal has held multiple residencies and won awards such as the Botí Foundation’s 2016-17 International Visual Arts Award or Generaciones 2015. His solo exhibitions have been seen in Berlin, Barcelona, Madrid and Valls; as a group he has participated in exhibitions at the Antoni Tàpies Foundation (2015), Caixaforum (2015) or at the Fabbrica del Vapore.
