Les Escales
In 1976 Josep Suñol moved his residence to Les Escales – the name under which this building designed by Josep Lluís Sert in the district of Les Corts in Barcelona is known -, an address specially designed to house his growing collection of works of art in a suitable space, also called Galeria 1.
The Suñol Soler Collection reveals a special way of understanding the art of collecting, which is built up by establishing a relationship of affection and complicity between the collector and the artists and which is based on the commitment to each of the projects. From this personal position, the collection was shaped by Josep Suñol during more than 40 years of dedication, during which he also established links with gallery owners and other professionals linked to the art world. It is in this spirit that the collection is considered a particular but at the same time collective memory.
