On Thursday 17 October we invite you to a musical concert by ESMUC musicians to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Antoni Tàpies surrounded by the artist’s works housed in the Suñol Soler Collection. A very special occasion to learn about the importance of Tàpies in the collection and the special bond he established with the collector Josep Suñol Soler.
When Antoni Tàpies moved from one place to another, he carried a suitcase full of LP’s of the moment, which he changed and revised according to his personal interests and the musical trends of the moment. Although Tàpies did not mix actions, that is to say, when he painted, he painted, and when he listened to music, he listened to music, he was a great music lover, a passion that was passed on to him from an early age.
After the painter’s death, Miquel Tàpies, the artist’s youngest son, listed the contents of one of his suitcases with the intention of generating a musical proposal that would bring together the classics of the 20th century: A. Webern, A. Schonberg, G. Scelsci, G. Ligeti, I. Xenakis, M. Feldman, J. Cage, P. Boulez, etc.
On the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Antoni Tàpies (Any Tàpies), the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) collaborates with the Museu Tàpies with a series of live performances in front of works by the artist in various institutions.
