28.02.2024, 18:30
Within the framework of the public program of the Walking With the River exhibition, the Fundació Suñol will invite the calligraphy master Mitsuru Nagata to present the secrets of the ancestral Japanese shodou technique, and then carry out a live action where calligraphy will dialogue with the exhibition of the artist Eva Lootz and the poems of Matsuo Basho, one of the greatest exponents of haiku.
Mitsuru Nagata was born in Kyoto, Japan in 1979, where he began studying shodou (Japanese calligraphy) at the age of 6, obtaining the title of master of calligraphy from the Futaba shodou kai school.
He also earned a degree in sociology from Bukkyo University in Kyoto. For years he took several courses to perfect the technique, thus developing his own contemporary style that fuses sumi-e (Japanese painting) with the essence of shodou.
Currently residing in Barcelona, Mitsuru actively participates in events, exhibitions and live demonstrations of sumi-e painting. Likewise, he teaches workshops with the aim of disseminating the rich Japanese culture both in his country and abroad.
