Film series in Zumzeig The Karamazoff
09.05.2023, 19:00
In May we organized a film series at the Zumzeig cooperative cinema around the Zush in Ibiza exhibition. Two documentaries will be presented that show both the historical and cultural context of the island of Ibiza and the importance that his stay in New York had for Zush. On Tuesday, May 9, ‘The Karamazoffs’ will be screened, a documentary that revives the creative effervescence that existed in New York during the 1970s and 1980s by a group of Catalan artists, including Zush, and the Tuesday May 16 ‘Dream Songs’ will be screened, a documentary about the hippie movement in Ibiza and its cultural importance for the island.
The Karamazoffs (A walk on the SoHo years) (2016). Direction and script: Juan Gamero and Carmen Rodríguez. In the 1960s, the abandoned factories of New York’s SoHo were occupied by artists from all over the world, transforming that neighborhood into the world epicenter of artistic experimentation. The Karamazoffs, a group of friends and artists from Barcelona, lived through that time and forged a friendship that they still maintain. Together with pioneers of the time, they look back on the SoHo art boom of the 1970s and 1980s, one of the most creative periods in contemporary art.
The screening will include a presentation and discussion by the directors Juan Gamero and Carmen Rodríguez.
