Past November 10th we invited the critic and art historian Daniel Giralt-Miracle to talk with Gloria Picazo, curator of the exhibition Intersecting memories. Collections as a territory for creation. The conversation revolved around collecting, the bridges that connect Barcelona with Madrid and the historical context that has brought Cuenca to the forefront of the art world, hosting one of the most important collections of the second half of the 20th century.
Daniel Giralt-Miracle is a critic, art historian and teacher. He has been an art critic since 1966 and his extensive artistic knowledge has led him to curate more than a hundred art exhibitions. Between 1966 and 1973 he was professor at the Barcelona ELISAVA School of Design and Engineering, later he taught at the Faculty of Information Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (between 1978 and 1987) and at the Faculty of Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona (1979-80 academic year). Expert in design and art history, he was responsible for the Plastic Arts Service of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, managing director of the Caixa de Catalunya Foundation between 1987 and 1989, director of the MACBA between 1989 and in 1994 and of the Gaudí Space of the Caixa Catalunya Cultural Center between 1995 and 2000. In 2002 he was appointed general curator of the Gaudí International Year, for which reason the following year he was awarded the National Award of Design granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
