Art with objects

A book, a shoe, a pair of sunglasses … they are functional objects of daily life with which we are familiar. But what effect do they cause when we find them decontextualized? What new meaning do they adopt when they are presented to us in unusual and unexpected ways? This sheet is made inspired by the work Parole, parole (1991) by Carlos Pazos.

What do you feel?

In Informalist works, matter, lines, colors and shapes become an explicit manifestation of the artist’s energy and intention, while they speak to us of the context in which they were created. To close the communicative circle of art, works need to feed on our reaction in the form of feelings and emotions. So, what does this work make you feel? How to translate the different feelings into plastic solutions? This sheet is made from the work Painting No. 5 (1959) by Manuel Millares.

Prosthesis for the soul

A prosthesis is a piece or artificial appliance added to the human body replacing an organ or part of an organ that is lacking. It is a functional element that proposes an improvement in bodies considered incomplete or imperfect. Art is often seen as not having a utilitarian dimension. It would, therefore, be the antithesis of what a prosthesis represents … But what if art were a prosthesis for the soul? * Based on the artwork Small support for Txema Retana (1993) by Ramon Guillen-Balmes.

* The title of this file is inspired by the interpretation of the users of the Mental Health Area of the San Juan de Dios Health Park about the work of Ramon Guillen-Balmes, within the framework of the Diverso Format project (2016) in collaboration with Torrents de Art.

The shape of the movements

Movement was one of the favorite subjects of futurist artists who tried to capture it without photo or video cameras, only with the means of painting or sculpture. But, if painting creates still images and sculpture produces immobile objects … how can they represent actions? This educational resource is inspired by the work Linee-Forza del pugno di Boccioni II (1968, based on the original prototype of 1915) by Giacomo Balla.
