Pioneer of electronic art (net.art) in Spain. He graduated in Art History at the University of Barcelona in 1979, he also studied Engraving in Cuenca, London and Perugia. His artistic career began linked to the world of painting and sculpture which he used to accompany with a series of sequential photographs. The use of this in a large part of his works showed his latent interest in video art. In addition, he was a resident artist at The Banff Center for the Arts (Alberta, Canada) between 1993 and 1994, which promoted this facet of video projection and installation that he developed throughout the 90s.

In 1997 he finished his studies in the European Media Master at the Universidad Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. From here he moved away from the artistically traditional to give way to evolution with the use of new technologies. He achieves a critical tone in his works through experimentation, research and creation based on computer science. It covers political and social issues, creating a space for audiovisual networks to give voice and visibility to different groups marginalized by the official media. It should be noted that he was awarded in 2006 with the Golden Nica of Electronic Art, for the category of virtual communities. Considered the most important prize worldwide in terms of art and new technologies.

He has exhibited in important institutions such as Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (1997), New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York (2001) or MACBA, Barcelona (1996, 2003 and 2014). The Suñol Foundation keeps four of his works. Among them, Cuádruple (1988) or Fragmento díscolo de (1991). In 2018, the individual exhibition ‘ACTO 39: Antoni Abad. Measure X Measure 1992’2015’, a project specifically designed for the entity’s level zero spaces.
