Jordi Alcaraz

Calella (Barcelona), 1963

Born in 1963 in Calella, Jordi Alcaraz is a Catalan artist known for exploring the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and installation, creating works that challenge traditional art conventions. His self-taught background led him to develop a unique language based on the transformation of materials such as glass, water, and mirrors, generating a poetic approach to transparency and distortion.

Since the 1990s, Alcaraz has experimented with the idea of “immateriality” in his pieces, addressing themes such as the passage of time and memory, often using mixed techniques and optical effects that play with viewers’ perceptions. His works present surfaces that appear to be in constant flux, opening a dialogue on the limits of matter and permanence.

Alcaraz’s work has been exhibited in renowned international institutions and galleries, such as the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica in Barcelona, the Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, and the Museu d’Art Contemporani in Eivissa. His pieces are part of significant public and private collections in Europe and the United States, valued for their experimental and evocative nature.

Jordi Alcaraz has received various recognitions for his innovative contributions to contemporary art, praised for his ability to capture the essence of the ephemeral and question physical and conceptual boundaries in art.
