The painting is not the purpose in essence, it’s only one of the tools to make visible to man and for man what is unknown.
Achille Perilli was born in Rome in 1927, and at just 14 years old, he already worked in Aldo Baldinelli’s studio, assisting him with his drawings and paintings in company of Dorazio. Later, in 1945, he studied Fine Arts and contemporary literature. The same year he founded the Grupo Arte Sociale with more artists, with whom just a year later he exhibited for first time. But an important turning point came in 1947, when he signed the manifesto Forma 1 accompanied by other creators, giving way to the creation of an avant-garde group of Marxist inspiration and a rejection of realistic-figurative art. The works of this first period are characterized by a rationalized use of space and shapes, close to the trends of geometric abstraction. The sum of lines and planes, as well as colors of great contrasts, constitute various architectures in his work.
Since then his career develops by means of painting, but he works too in scripture of articles and theory, as well as in theatre, by means of scenographies and costumes design. The artist’s commitment to research leads him to investigate new formal solutions, such as graffiti, made from 1958, and where he introduces materials such as pumice, marble dust, chalk or vinyl acetate, entering the terrain of informalism, thus breaking with the geometrization of space that characterized him in his early works.
He also regularly travels through Europe discovering the work of other artists, highlighting his visit to Spain (1953), Paris (1956) or Warsaw and Krakow (1969). As far as painting is concerned, he will exhibit with some frequency throughout Italy, but also in cities of great importance such as New York, Amsterdam, Prague, Moscow or Düsseldorf, both individually and collectively.
