Joan-Josep Tharrats

Joan-Josep Tharrats was one of the most prominent Catalan artists of the 20th century, known for his fundamental role in the development of the artistic avant-garde in Spain. Co-founder of the Dau al Set group, Tharrats contributed to renewing the artistic panorama of his time with a language that combined surrealism, abstraction and technical experimentation.

His work is characterized by the use of unconventional materials, rich textures and a vibrant chromatic palette that reflects his interest in symbolism and visual poetry. In addition to his facet as a painter, he was a prolific graphic creator and editor, standing out for his involvement in the magazine Dau al Set, which was a meeting point for the cultural avant-garde in the post-war period.

Tharrats exhibited internationally and his work is part of the collections of prestigious museums and institutions. His contribution to the art world remains an essential reference in the history of Catalan and Spanish contemporary art.
