Patricio Vélez

Quito, 1945

He studied architecture at the Central University of Quito, in Paris he trained in painting and from 1976 in drawing at the Eina school in Barcelona.

His work stands as a mechanism for reconstructing personal memory, which collects the experiences lived in a multitude of trips and encounters, also adding imaginary passages. Although his stroke is generally abstract, his works refer us to his studies and naturalistic observations in Tenerife, Barcelona, Brazil, etc. Without a doubt, he has the natural component as a reference and manages to free drawing from structural values.

The Suñol Soler Collection contains 3 of his works. In 2018, a solo exhibition was dedicated to him at the Suñol Foundation called ‘Patricio Vélez: Las formas del tiempo’, with the aim of delving deeper into his work and the creative scene in Barcelona from 1975-2000.
