Joan Rom E.R.T.
02.10.2013 - 25.01.2014
This solo exhibition about the Catalan artist Joan Rom (1954) shows some forty pieces including sculptures, installations, drawings and photographs made between 1986 and 1996.
The Joan Rom exhibition follows one of the Fundació Suñol’s main aims which is to show work by individual artists in the Josep Suñol Collection. To date, it has displayed work by five out of the more than two hundred artists featured in the collection.
Joan Rom’s pieces show the influence of Arte Povera, conceptual art and minimal art, but also distance themselves from these movements. His pieces rearrange the materials used and give them a new poetic meaning. What we see leads us to hidden realities: the act of gathering, chance, new readings of a material and its new uses, challenging conventions.
Rom recalls the memory of an object by transforming it and stressing its most essential aspect. The solid, coherent nature of his work is clear in his sober use of forms, materials and resources – including the supporting base – which produces a result free from any unnecessary noise
